Council Bluffs Woman Got Ticket For $835, Fighting It In Court

This is amazing. Watch the video below and give me your comments!

http://news.yahoo.com/video/politics-15749652/835-parking-ticket-leaves-woman-furious-25211337#video=25211337

Couple of points:

Seems to me that even though the signs were posted, they were not posted where the parking ticket was issued. That could be a grounds for dismissal.

"The fine should match the crime"

The funniest point from the video "They should have just shot her"

Parking Tickets Los Angeles - Daily Alert For Griffith Park, Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California

Surprising Parking Tickets Alert in Los Angeles Griffith Park! Traffic Tickets Galore!

If you are like me you appreciate a nice stroll in a green area, with a dense canopy of trees. You can do that in Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

The park is perfect for families to do some BBQ, for folks who enjoy walking in the woods. In addition, Griffith Park is an excellent starting point for quick short hikes to Griffith Observatory that is overseeing the Hollywood, Los Feliz, Koreatown, and offers beautiful views of Downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach area, South Bay and beyond.

Or, you could start a longer hike and get to some of the peaks where wonderful vistas of Burbank, Glendale, and the San Fernando Valley are to die for.

So why the daily parking ticket alert for the Griffith Park?

The very best entrance to Griffith Park is from Western Avenue north, as it turns to Los Feliz Boulevard. There, make a left into Griffith Park. Entering, You will be greeted (recently) with a sign that says NO PARKING SUNSET TO SUNRISE, NEXT 2 MILES. Or something like that.

But there is more. As an occasional stroller through the park, some interesting events have taken place and I have took some pictures over the past few months.

Long time ago, everything was calm and peaceful...

Before November, 2010, the parking signs along the road through the park all said "no parking sunset to sunrise" which is kind of weird, as, how can you tell sunset? But all was okay, as, apparently, noone got any tickets anyways.

...But then, one sunny day, boom, something happened.

But then in November, 2010, something changed. A number of no parking signs along a section before the Fern Dell intersection changed to "No Parking", period. Weird. This may have something to do with the water that broke out of pipes underneath and started to eat up the pavement on the road, but who knows?

More importantly, not much later, the parking tickets started coming out of the woodwork. Here are some images from February, 2011, when the "Operation Parking Tickets Money Suck" began. And begin it did, in a big way.

So what is the damage?

I'm estimating at least 10 tickets at $65 each are delivered each night, typically sometime after sunset. We're talking at least a $650*365=$237,250 annual tax on Los Angeles nature lovers and Griffith Park visitors, probably more. And this is just an hour or less of work for the Parking Enforcement officer. And then there are more daily parking tickets at other city parks and daily annoying parking tickets at state parks! When will this nonsense end?

Here are some more images from end of March, and April 2011. The tickets keep coming. Daily. Spread the word.

Your job: spread the word.

Tell your friends and warn them about it.

As a parking alternative, it is possible to park south of Los Feliz Blvd, or drive farther up to the Griffith Observatory and park below the Observatory. This would be outside the 2 mile range.

Comment, post link on Facebook, Tweet, spread the word.

Parking Meter Violation - Another Parking Ticket in Thai Town

You would think that the City of Angels displays incredible creativity when it comes to setting up parking rules and parking meters. And especially no-parking rules and green color parking meters. And especially those that will cost YOU, the city dweller, money.

Case in point: $50 parking meter violation fine for a long-time Los Angeles resident who enjoys eating in Thai Town, on Hollywood Boulevard.

Unlike the central western part of the Hollywood Boulevard near the now-famous Hollywood-Highland intersection, the Thai Town part of the Hollywood Boulevard is much more quiet. You will not find any Elvis impostors, or Micky Mouse figures walking around here. No flashy signs or huge TV displays.

There are plenty of great restaurants though. If you like Thai food, this is the place to go. In the evening, many Los Angeles residents drive up here to dine.

There is a Parking Trap here though! You'll experience a $50 fine if you park here for more than an hour, even at night! This is just one block of the street, the rest of the area has no parking restrictions after 7PM at night whatsoever. Let's get a visual on the details here.

The Parking Trap is the south side of Hollywood Boulevard, between Kingsley and Winona, adjacent to the famous SanamLuang Cafe.

Here is the normal parking for the rest of the street, notice, no restrictions for evening diners, 1 hour parking 8AM-8PM. The rule is enforced by parking meters everywhere between Western and Normandie, except at the Parking Trap. This is perfect for the evening diners, they just need to come after 7PM and they can enjoy themselves:

And here is the Parking Trap, a small block on the south side of Hollywood Blvd, between Kingsley and Winona:

Notice, 1 Hour Parking 6PM - 9AM! This is crazy! And a great trap as many diners will come here and, with all the delicious Thai food, who can stay just one hour?

Interestingly, this is right next to one of the best Thai Restaurants in LA, SanamLuang Cafe:
and not too far from the Thailand Plaza, with a number of great Thai food restaurants:

It is quite well known that people can't see colors well at night and, guess what, the parking meters at the Parking Trap are colored Green! Who can see that at night?

To add insult to injury, the $50 parking ticket states "METER EXP. NPV. UA NA COIN SLOT CLEAR SOLID RED". This is anything but clear solid red, especially at night!

More details: 5170 Hollywood Blvd. HW210 8:41 PM.

Please post a comment if you have a PARKING TRAP like this to report!

Annoying Parking Ticket at Zuma Beach, California (Malibu, CA)

Fig. 1: Point Dume State Park, Malibu, California

This was my first time visiting the beautiful Zuma Beach peninsula right by Malibu, California. Driving right to the tip of the peninsula is the wonderful state park area. You can hike to the top of the hill with beautiful views, you can hike down to the beach ( Matthew McConaughey surfs there, by the way, Surfer, Dude is up in theaters in September 2008 ). Story continues, below...

But I needed to park my car first. There is a miniscule parking space for about 10 cars on the beach side of the Cliffside Drive, and there is what looks like, additional parking on the other side. Driver beware! There are super small no parking signs there! However, many people park there so more people park and feel it is okay, and they do not look for the signs. Possibly because of the beautiful ocean view!?!

Anyhow, today I and ten (10!) other cars got a $64 parking violation ticket for parking there!!

Fig. 2: The ten cars that got a $64 ticket today!

I'm posting this blog to raise the awareness of these hideous and annoying "parking" places that are just local community money machines!

What alternatives does one have for parking there and enjoying the beautiful Pt Dume Park and the beach?

The 10 parking spots are definitely insufficient, and even they are limited to 2 hours! It takes at least 1 hour to hike the cliff and it takes at least 30 minutes to hike down to the beach!

I have not seen any street parking anywhere near?! Is there any?

I have seen a bus stop saying that bus stops there every 1/2 hour in the summer. But where does it take you? Where would be a good place to park the car (for hours) and take the bus to Pt Dume?

Fig. 3: The two-hour limit miniscule parking lot.

I invite anyone to comment with any of these answers and to post links to other parking ticket traps in the Los Angeles, CA, USA, or for that matter, the entire world! Maybe we can create a map of nice places to visit with instructions on what to be careful about. So we can enjoy the places to the fullest!

P.S.: See the exact location on panoramio: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/12791684

P.P.S: Here is the official web site for Pt. Dume State Beach where the annoying parking ticket was issued: http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=623. Here are the other beautiful California State Parks: http://www.parks.ca.gov.

I'd like someone to comment if they found parking or traffic issues at other state beaches or state parks.
